TAB TV Newscast Producing Workshop is Three Weeks Away

TAB’s News Producing Workshop featuring Al Tompkins is just three weeks away on Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, at the TAB building in Austin.

The same workshop will be presented both days, so newsrooms have two options to choose what best fits the staff schedule.

Member station staff and student interns can register now for just $75 per person which includes continental breakfast, all-day beverages, and lunch.

This session is perfect for producers, associate producers, and newsroom leaders who want to grow the station’s newscast producing team.

Student interns interested in becoming producers can attend as well.

The Workshop Agenda

In 25 years at Poynter, Tompkins trained thousands of producers keen on improving their professional skills and developing their newsroom leadership capabilities.

He has also been a fixture at TAB newsroom workshops during the last two decades.

Although he formally retired from Poynter earlier this year, Al agreed to present this special workshop for TAB TV newsrooms this November.

The seminar is practical, specific, and loaded with real examples that arm attendees with techniques to use on the next shift.

  • What do the Best Producers Stand For?
  • Power Writing
  • Ethical Decisions on Deadline
  • Managing Stress/Burnout, Managing the Boss, Leading Your Newscast
  • Producers’ Vital Role in Fact-Checking and Truth-Testing
  • Implementing the Takeaways from the Day

Registrants should expect lots of interaction and introspection as they take time away from the daily newscast grind to focus on their unique role in the newsroom.

Don’t miss out on this special day-long workshop, it’s a wonderful investment in the quality of your station’s newscasts!
