Broadcast Foundation Tees Up $29,000 in Scholarships for Texas College Students
posted on 2.20.2024- From Two-Year School to Four-Year College/Universities, April 15 Deadline
Texas university or community college students pursuing a degree in media technology, sales and marketing, or journalism are invited to apply online by April 15 for one of nine scholarships offered by the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation. Station interns or professionals still completing their degrees are encouraged to apply.
Eight of the scholarships are in the amount of $3,000 and one is for $5,000. Applications require some documentation from schools, so students are encouraged to prepare early.
About the Foundation
The Texas Broadcast Education Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 1973 to provide scholarships to students pursuing a broadcast career.
Most of the scholarships are sufficiently endowed to generate $2,000 in awards, but fundraising by TAB has allowed the minimum award to grow to $3,000, with planning underway to explore additional recruitment and retention opportunities.
CURRENT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS
Movers, Shakers Honored
Several significant players in Texas broadcasting have been memorialized in the scholarships, from A.H. Belo, Vann Kennedy, and Ann Arnold, to Lady Bird Johnson, Wendell Mayes, Jr., Tom Rieff and Bonner McLane.
The two remaining unnamed scholarships are eligible for targeted fundraising to honor additional figures.
Donors of $750 or more may be individually recognized on the Broadcast Leaders Wall on the exterior of TAB’s office in Downtown Austin, while contributions of $3,000 or more secure permanent recognition in the TAB board room or lobby.
