Job Summary/Description:
Do you live and breathe sports? Are you ready to cover Big 12 athletics and also every single high school in our area? KCBD is looking for a hard-working, creative, and energetic storyteller to join our award-winning team as a sports reporter/anchor. This is a full-time position that will invest, train and provide opportunities for the winning candidate to grow and advance.  Lubbock's legacy station is looking for a sports reporter/anchor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be a strong writer who understands creative storytelling and visual presentation.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cover high school and Texas Tech sports, develop sources and contacts
  • Produce and anchor weekend sportscasts
  • Fill-in anchor sportscasts during the week
  • Report sports stories through the week
  • Shoot, write, edit and deliver stories on multiple platforms
  • Gather and verify information
  • Collaborate with other team members to deliver the best possible product on-air and on digital

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Empathy for others
  • A team-builder, with a dedication to collaboration and getting it right
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong conversational delivery
  • Degree in journalism/communications/English or equivalent background preferred
  • Some newsroom experience preferred
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Availability to work various hours as breaking news or special events warrant; but understand we have a sizeable staff to spread across all dayparts
  • MVR check required
