KBTX is looking for an innovative chief meteorologist to lead our award-winning PinPoint Weather Team.

You’ll guide a talented, market-leading team in producing and delivering accurate, dynamic, and relatable forecasts for KBTX’s newscasts and digital platforms, demonstrating Brazos Valley weather in a compelling way and providing a first alert at changing conditions.

We’re looking for a meteorologist who lives for urgent, impactful coverage of what’s new, now and next, excels in breaking weather situations, and owns both digital and broadcast coverage of breaking weather. You’ll harness the largest and latest resources in the Brazos Valley to create content that resonates with viewers and work to grow the station’s established reputation as a market-leader in weather coverage.

You’re joining a team of exceptional journalists, committed to our community and working to make it better, both on and off camera. The ideal candidate will be a strong ambassador for those goals, establishing roots in the community and working to serve it beyond their capacity as a meteorologist.

If you have a passion for weather, a talent for storytelling, and a desire to help other broadcast meteorologists grow, this is the job for you.

Duties/Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Managing the weather department, including scheduling, coordinating educational events, and providing growth-focused feedback to team members in close collaboration with the news director
• Analyzing weather data to produce quality, accurate forecasts that resonate with key demographics and provide a first alert of changing weather conditions
• Researching, writing, and producing daily content for television and digital platforms
• Working closely with management and the PinPoint Team to hone a consistent style and meteorology-focused editorial content
• Meeting daily deadlines for both broadcast and digital platforms in a fast-paced environment

Qualifications/Requirements:

• At least ten years of experience in a TV newsroom as a broadcast meteorologist is preferred
• A CBM or CBM-eligible candidate with a college degree in meteorology or a related field is expected
• Experience with ENPS and Grass Valley EDIUS is a big plus
• Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, the ability to be a team player and maintain a professional attitude
• While this position is primarily a nightside Sunday-Thursday role, it requires availability to work weekends and special events when necessary, a presence in major severe weather and may require holiday work
