Job Summary/Description:

KBTX is looking for an innovative, digitally minded sports director to lead the market’s largest sports team. In this role, you’ll routinely break sports headlines online, then offer depth and context on our broadcast and digital platforms.

In this role, you’ll routinely break sports headlines online, then offer depth and context on our broadcast and digital platforms. You’ll produce and anchor content that goes beyond standard highlights, scores and profiles, and share stories of success and empowerment that resonate with viewers. An ideal candidate will be comfortable developing strong sources at the collegiate and high school levels, independently enterprising content, and using their storytelling skills to offer meaningful depth to sports headlines. You’ll oversee daily sports coverage, along with seasonal content including Texas A&M and high school football season previews, a live Texas A&M football pregame show, and a Friday night high school football program.

At KBTX, you’ll regularly cover the Southeastern Conference and Texas A&M, one of the nation’s most recognizable college brands and most fervent fanbases. As the Official Aggie Sports Station, KBTX's coverage of Texas A&M is unmatched on broadcast – you’ll guide that coverage both at home and on the road, and oversee a digital product to match its depth online. This high-energy, high-expectations position requires solid news judgment, a strong background in photojournalism, and dynamic storytelling abilities. You must have a passion for delivering original, imaginative content every day. A robust personality, comfort in live television reporting, and a positive attitude are essential for this role.

You’re joining a team of exceptional journalists who are committed to our community and work to make it better, both on and off camera.

Duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Overseeing the sports department, including managing schedules and setting coverage priorities, in close collaboration with the news director
• Researching and creating daily content for television, social and web platforms, including dynamic live shots and packages
• Forming and facilitating working relationships with the local sports community
• Identifying and enterprising relevant local feature stories
• Meeting daily and weekly deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Taking an active role in seasonal KBTX productions including Aggie Gameday and Friday Football Fever

Qualifications/Requirements:

• A minimum of ten years of experience in a television newsroom, as well as a college degree in broadcast journalism or a related field, are expected
• Experience with ENPS or Sony XPRI non-linear editing software is a big plus
• Candidates should also exhibit a good work ethic, strong people skills, the ability to be a team player and work flexibly
• This position will require holiday and weekend work as sports schedules and special events dictate
