Public Service Award entries due June 28

TAB created the Bonner McLane Public Service Awards to recognize television and radio stations’ outstanding contributions and service to their local communities.

Stations nominate themselves in their respective market categories.

Nominations are due Friday, June 28.

Six awards are presented each year.

Each winning station receives a $500 voucher to be used to defray registration fees for TAB programs and to purchase hard copies of legal publications.

Vouchers cannot be used to offset membership dues or ABIP fees.

Entries are judged by a committee of former broadcasters and TAB staff members.

Awards will be presented at the 2013 TAB/SBE Convention & Trade Show, Aug. 7-8 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel.

Elements that will contribute to a successful submission include:

  • Short synopsis of each public service event your station(s) produced; include value of airtime and/or number of spots donated to each event
  • Pictures of public service events
  • Short DVD or CD summarizing the year’s events or the promotional spots for the event (5 minute maximum)
  • Coverage of the event by other media
  • Letters of appreciation from the community
  • Dollar amounts raised for charitable causes
  • News coverage that related to major public service efforts

Submissions should not include:

  • Printed invoices of PSA airtime
  • Events that are more station promotion than service to the community
  • Footage of news events that are not public service
