NOAA hurricane awareness tour visits San Antonio on May 16

A slew of hurricane experts and one of the “hurricane hunter” aircraft are heading to San Antonio on May 16 to promote hurricane awareness in Texas.

The 2016 NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour is scheduled for Monday, May 16, from 9:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the South Ramp of the San Antonio International Airport.

The event will kick off with a media conference followed by interview availabilities as well as tours  of a U.S. Air Force Reserve WC-130J “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft and the NOAA G-IV aircraft.

Several leading hurricane experts will be on hand to discuss this potential severe weather threat for the Gulf Coast and Texas, including Laura Furgione, Deputy Director, NOAA National Weather Service; Rick Knabb, Ph.D., director, NOAA National Hurricane Center (NHC); Daniel Brown, senior hurricane specialist, NHC; John Cangialosi, hurricane specialist, NHC; Joe Arellano, Meteorologist-In-Charge, NWS San Antonio; crew members of USAF Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft and crew members of NOAA G-IV aircraft.
