NAB, RTDNA and Poynter Offer Tools and Ideas to Stay Safe While Covering Protests

In light of the violence shown toward the news media in the recent breach of the U.S. Capitol, the National Association of Broadcasters, the Radio Television Digital News Association and the Poynter Institute have all made safety materials available online in the past two weeks.

The NAB has a toolkit for journalists with information on how to stay safe while covering protests at www.nab.org/journalism.

RTDNA has done the same with training videos and resources at https://www.rtdna.org/safety/

The Poynter Institute’s Al Tompkins has an updated collection of guidelines available to assist newsroom field personnel when reporting on crowd violence or mobs.
