Longtime Austin News Director Pam Vaught to Retire this Month

Pam Vaught, who for the past 23 years has helmed the KTBC-TV Austin newsroom, will retire this September.

She is believed to be the longest-serving, current Texas TV news director working at the same station in a Texas TV market.

Vaught, who will lead the Fox7 newsroom until Sept. 20, joined the station as news director in September of 1998.

She has worked for Fox stations for 29 of her 40 years in the business.

TAB is aware of other past Texas television news directors who served 25 or more years in that role at one Texas station such as the late Ray Miller of KPRC-TV Houston, TAB’s 1998 Pioneer Broadcaster of the Year, and KENS-TV San Antonio’s Bob Rogers who died in August.

In addition to her longtime service to the Austin community, Vaught served on TAB’s Newsroom Legislative Committee, and testified on behalf of Texas newsrooms at the legislature.

Her four-decade career in broadcasting began after her graduation from Indiana University Bloomington in 1981.
