Lawmakers Begin Confirming for TAB Legislative Lunch

- Register Now for Jan. 22 Conference

More than a dozen members of the Texas Legislature already have signed up to join their local Radio and TV managers and news directors at TAB’s Lawmaker/Broadcaster Luncheon in Austin on Jan. 22. The luncheon closes TAB’s one-day biennial Legislative Day conference and is popular among lawmakers because of the opportunity it provides to discuss legislative goals and concerns without being interrupted by speakers.

Lawmakers and key staff are seated with their constituent broadcasters at this event which has no program, with multiple tables reserved for individual markets or regions. The event is slated early in the session before lawmakers’ schedules are overcome with committee hearings, floor votes and what are always tense budget negotiations.

There’s no charge for lawmakers to attend, and the luncheon is part of broadcasters’ $50 registration fee for the conference which is being held at the Sheraton Austin, just blocks from the Capitol. TAB provides complimentary valet and self-parking available for lawmakers who have quick turnaround times for meetings and hearings.  Discounted hotel rooms are available for the evening of Jan. 21.

TAB Legislative Agenda
TAB’s continuing effort to restore the state’s Open Government laws to ensure all Texans know how their tax dollars are being spent will take center stage of our legislative agenda, but we must also prepare to safeguard TAB’s hard-fought successes on a wide range of tax policy and newsroom protections.

The conference opens with detailed briefings on key issues for broadcasters in the morning, followed by the luncheon. The afternoon is open for further meetings at the Texas Capitol.

The Jackson Walker LLC law firm, TAB’s general counsel and one of the country’s leading media law practices, is sponsoring the breakfast and multiple station groups are co-sponsoring the luncheon, including:

  • Cox Media Group
  • Entercom
  • Gray Television
  • NBC-U/Telemundo
  • Nexstar Broadcasting Group
  • Univision
  • Tribune Media
  • Sinclair Broadcast Group
