FOIFT Annual Open Government Conference Set for Sept. 28

The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas (FOIFT) will hold its Bernard and Audre Rapoport Annual Conference in Austin on Thursday, Sept. 28.

The annual conference brings together journalists, government leaders, attorneys and interested citizens to delve into the current issues of government transparency and free speech.

FOIFT also uses the event to honor FOI heroes with the James Madison Award and outstanding journalism with the Spirit of FOI Award.

This year’s conference, “Seizing the Moment: the Texas Public Information Act Turns 50,” will be held at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center in Austin, located on the southern end of the University of Texas campus.

Conference speakers include Uvalde Leader-News publisher Craig Garnett; Uvalde parent Kimberly Mata-Rubio; attorney Laura Prather of TAB Associate member law firm Haynes Boone; Rob Henneke of the Texas Public Policy Foundation; East Texas parents and public records advocates Kathy and Robert Dyer; Rachel Clow of KRIS-TV Corpus Christi; Dave Hendricks of KGBT-TV Harlingen; and more to be announced.

Registration is now open and a conference ticket may be purchased for $115.

More conference information is available at www.foift.org.
