Davis postpones announcement of political future

State Sen. Wendy Davis, D-Fort Worth, has postponed the announcement of her future political plans for the time being.

She had been expected to make an announcement around the Labor Day holiday about her possible run for governor instead of seeking re-election in her Texas Senate district.

Davis said she needs to be with her father, who has suffered complications from recent surgery.

"We remain hopeful that the improvements we've seen in his health will continue,” Davis said.

“As a result, I will not be making any official announcement related to my future plans for public office so that I can focus on the continued care and recovery of my father. It's my hope that he will be able to join me and my family in the next few weeks when I make a public announcement.”
