FCC Announces Two-Week Deadline Extension of C-Band Satellite Dish Registration

The FCC has extended the deadline to register C-Band earth stations used by many radio and television stations to receive programming to Oct. 31.

As the hours ticked off toward last week’s original Oct. 17 deadline, the FCC’s online filing system began to experience registration delays.

Jessica Nyman, an attorney with TAB’s FCC legal counsel Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, said the FCC’s IBFS experienced what the FCC called a “large influx of earth station applications filed near the deadline,” and the filing system “experienced intermittent difficulties that have prevented some applicants from filing for licenses or registrations.”

As a precaution and to aid late registrants, the commission decided to extend the deadline an additional two weeks.

Read more about the extension and what types of C-Band satellite dishes need to be registered.
