Ad Council urges "Think B4 You Speak"

The Advertising Council, a TAB Associate Member, recently introduced ads meant to tackle derogatory language directed at gays and lesbians.

The ads feature celebrities such as Wanda Sykes and Hilary Duff with the theme ?When you say, ?That?s so gay,? do you realize what you say?"

According to a website set up for the campaign, almost 90 percent of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students report being verbally harassed at school because of their sexual orientation.

Peggy Conlon, president and chief executive of the council, told the New York Times, ?We?re always looking for important messages on discrimination. We thought this would be a fabulous campaign to take on because it?s surprising how pervasive this language is.?

Stations can download MP3 radio spots and web banners at the Ad Council?s PSA Central website and television stations can order Beta copies of the campaign.

Contact TAB?s Craig Bean or call (512) 322-9944 for more information on public service campaigns.
