120+ broadcasters and students attend TAB Newsroom Workshop in Lubbock

More than 120 broadcasters and students attended the TAB’s Newsroom Workshop in Lubbock.

The event, new this year, augments the longstanding fall Southwest Broadcast Newsroom Workshop.

An annual, regional workshop will be staged in areas that are a great distance from the fall workshop so TAB can reach more newsroom staff across the state.

The inaugural workshop took place March 8 at the College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University.

Broadcasters attended from newsrooms in the Amarillo, Abilene, Lubbock, Midland-Odessa and San Angelo markets.

The workshop featured nationally-known newsroom trainers Les Rose, CBS News Los Angeles, as well as Boyd Huppert and Jonathan Malat of KARE-TV Minneapolis.

Other presenters included Tom Williams of TAB Associate Member law firm Haynes Boone LLP Ft. Worth; Brian Collister, KTRK-TV Houston; Hannah Fields, Abner Euresti and Benji Snead, all of KCBD-TV Lubbock; Brittany Escobar, KLBK-TV Lubbock; Ny Lynn Nichols, KAMR-TV Amarillo, and David Wagner, KLST-TV San Angelo.

Three members of the Texas Tech College of Media & Communication faculty also presented sessions at the workshop: Jerod Foster, Ph.D.; Lea Hellmueller, Ph.D.; and Kelly Kaufhold, Ph.D.

The Southwest Broadcast Newsroom Workshop will take place Sept. 20 on the University of Texas campus in Austin.
