Texas Speaker makes committee assignments

Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus announced his committee appointments Feb. 12.

The announcement sets in motion deliberation of all legislative proposals in the lower chamber. 

Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst made his appointments early this month and Senate committees began meeting last week.

House committees key to broadcasters' efforts to pass a Free Flow of Information Act are the Committee on Calendars that decides which legislation will be put for a vote and the Committee on Judiciary/Civil Jurisprudence.

On the Senate side, the Committee on Jurisprudence will consider the FFOIA legislation.

In both chambers, the State Affairs Committees consider Open Government related legislation which affect newsrooms? ability to gather information.
