Texas Broadcasters respond to disasters

Each year since 1998, TAB has surveyed all stations for documentation of their public service efforts.

Our 2015 report is astounding…even with less than 18% of stations responding, we’ve documented that those stations since 1998 have raised or contributed 4.98 BILLION dollars to their local communities.

That includes $499 million raised for charities since 2004 and comes to more than $600,000 for each participating station last year alone.

We’re producing more news programming than ever before, with an average of 27 hours per week, with per-station investments ranging from about $700,000 for a small or medium market TV station, to nearly $4 million for a single TV station in the state’s top four markets.

And perhaps our proudest statistic: 723 children – 296 of them Texans – saved nationally since 1998 by the AMBER Alert program which was created by broadcasters in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.

No industry does more for Texas communities than local broadcasters, and we can be proud of that!

And all that work is aside from our day-to-day efforts when sudden events can turn deadly as we saw in the first six months of this year…take a look at the video below (produced by KXAS-TV Dallas-Fort Worth).
