Texas broadcasters gear up for 2017 TAB Show

The 2017 TAB Show Aug. 9-10 in Austin is drawing industry leaders from throughout the country and broadcasters from every market in Texas for a non-stop, two day schedule focused on growing revenue, building digital partnerships, launching Next-Gen TV, and preparing for the spectrum repack – all anchored by a 124 booth trade show featuring the industry’s latest technology.
Legislative and regulatory policy, deep dives into partnering with Google and YouTube, and a case study in deploying Amazon’s new platforms for local Radio and TV stations are among the 30+ programs planned.
Auto advertising, digital media sales, local cable competition, traditional sales training and prospecting, and leadership development are the subject of seven sessions presented by experts such as Adam Armbruster, ESA; Jack Zavoral, LMA; Mark Levy, RDR; Pat Bryson and Paul Weyland.
Legal experts address Radio and TV music licensing, station deal killers, the FCC’s new regulatory landscape, AM revitalization and the online public file, among other topics.
Technology looms large at the TAB Show with programs ranging from the looming spectrum repack’s effects on Radio and TV stations to cybersecurity strategies for broadcasters. Sessions on ATSC 3.0, antenna architectures, drones, AM revitalization, the future for wireless mics and other hot topics round out the agenda for the tech-minded.
The closing Awards Gala features the presentation of Texas broadcasting’s most coveted leadership honors, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Pioneer, Broadcaster and Associate of the Year awards, and the George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence. Actor Glenn Morshower of “24,” the Transformers movies, Showtime’s “I’m Dying Up Here,” and countless films and TV shows will keynote the event.
Dr. Rick Rigsby, a former broadcaster himself, opens the Annual Convention Wednesday with an inspiring and introspective opening keynote, and “soul country” singer/songwriter Sundance Head of The Voice fame greets guests at the kick-off party co-sponsored by BMI, Haynes and Boone LLP, TEGNA and The Nielsen Company.
Full conference registration is $115 for members, with additional tickets required for the golf tournament, exhibit hall lunch, Golden Mic Club banquet and the Awards Gala. Guest rooms at the host and overflow hotels are still available, though the discounted TAB room block is full.
