Texas Broadcast Education Foundation Eyes $29,000 in Scholarships

- Make Your Tax-Deductible Contribution Today!

Texas broadcasters and station groups are encouraged to include the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation in their year-end giving plans as TBEF prepares to award another $29,000 in scholarships to Texas college students pursuing careers in broadcast marketing, engineering, or journalism.

The foundation annually awards eight $3,000 scholarships, plus the $5,000 Ann Arnold Scholarship, and typically receives three times as many applications.

Scholarship recipients hail from colleges and universities across the state and a recent search of past recipients indicates most of them are still in the business three years after graduating.

Applications are received each spring and reviewed by a committee which announces awards by mid-May each year.

About the TBEF

Texas broadcasters started the Texas Broadcast Education Foundation in 1973 to foster learning in broadcasting, broadcast journalism, management, advertising, broadcast electronics and other arts and techniques of the broadcasting field.

The 501(c)(3) foundation is governed by an independent, nine-member Board of Directors and shares a staff with TAB.

Historically, TBEF attempted to establish endowments for each scholarship named for a Texas broadcast legend as most recently seen with the Ann Arnold Scholarship which was endowed in 2012.

Low interest rates over the past two decades significantly increased the amounts needed to generate enough interest to support a single scholarship, prompting a change in fundraising to include annual campaigns which has allowed TBEF to increase scholarship amounts.
