TAB Welcomes Six New Directors to Board

Six Texas broadcasters joined the TAB Board of Directors in September, filling vacancies resulting from retirements, resignations and term limits. They join 31 other directors representing Radio and Television stations in various market sizes across the state, as well as educators, associate members and retired broadcasters.

Board members are responsible for advising TAB staff on member services and legislative policy, providing fiduciary oversight for the organization and assisting with all major organizational efforts, including the NCSA/PEP program, membership recruitment and the Annual Convention.

Directors and officers are not compensated or reimbursed for traveling to Board meetings, nor do they receive complimentary admission to TAB events.

Meet TAB’s New Board Members

Carolyn Mungo, the VP and Station Manager for TEGNA’s WFAA-TV in Dallas-Fort Worth, was appointed to fill the TV At-Large seat which became vacant upon Henry Florsheim’s retirement from KTRK-TV Houston.  Mungo was promoted during the summer after serving several years as the station’s executive news director and being named Broadcasting & Cable’s 2018 News Director of the Year.

Jerry Martin, VP and General Manager of KPRC-TV in Houston since 2011, returns to the Board after serving two terms beginning in 2012. The station is one of two Graham Media stations in Texas. During his previous service he was the TV Chair of the Legislative Policy Committee and is a frequent host of TAB grassroots meetings with lawmakers and FCC commissioners.

Andrea Parquet-Taylor is the VP and Station Manager for the CBS TV stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth market. Previously she served as news director at WNCN-TV, the CBS affiliate in Raleigh-Durham; WXYZ-TV in Detroit; WRAL-TV and WRAZ-TV in Raleigh-Durham and WMAR-TV in Baltimore. She has been extremely active in TAB, attending the NAB State Leadership Conference in 2019 and subsequent TAB congressional appointments, hosting and attending grassroots meetings in Dallas, and engaging in TAB’s state legislative advocacy.

Amy Villarreal is the VP and General Manager for KEYE-TV (Sinclair), the CBS and Telemundo affiliates in Austin. Prior to KEYE-TV, Villarreal was the Vice President and General Manager of KVEO in the Rio Grande Valley. She previously served on the TAB Board from 1999 to 2005 and again in 2013. During that time, she also served on the TBEF Board and was deeply engaged in convention planning and in TAB’s advocacy efforts in Austin and DC.

Luis Villarreal is the VP and General Manager for KGNS-TV (Gray Television) in Laredo. Villarreal began his broadcasting career in 1990 as an owner operator of Rio Grande Media, Inc. Since then he has operated radio and television stations in Laredo, Corpus Christi and El Paso.  He’s a member of the NAB’s Broadcast Leadership Training program. He joined TAB in its 2019 congressional visits in DC and routinely engages in TAB’s state advocacy efforts.

Tony DeMars is President of the Broadcast Education Association and a Professor at Texas A&M University-Commerce where he also serves as Mass Media & Journalism Division Director. He worked in Texas broadcasting for more than 10 years, including KMLA Texarkana and KEEE/KJCS Lufkin-Nacogdoches, before moving into teaching in university broadcast programs.
