TAB updates informal list of potential candidates in 2014 campaigns

TAB has updated its informal list of potential 2014 political candidates first published in the Members section of the TAB website earlier this month.

As noted in this week’s and last week’s TABulletin, there have been some shifts in the office sought be several of the candidates for statewide office and some announcements of runs for statewide office by Republicans and Democrats alike.

Additionally, a few incumbents in Congress and the Texas statehouse have picked up March primary challengers.

This week came word that a longtime member of the Texas Senate, Sen. John Carona, R-Dallas, has picked up a primary challenger.

Donald Huffines, a Dallas-area real estate developer, is indicating that he will challenge Carona in the Republican primary for SD 16.

For now, here is the informal list TAB is maintaining of contested offices in the 2014 Texas election year.

The list includes individuals who have either declared their candidacy for a particular office or are said to be considering a run for that office.

It should not be considered complete by any means and does not reflect contested races at the county level.

No one in Texas is, at this moment, a “legally qualified candidate” for purposes of the FCC rules.

Texas broadcasters won’t know exactly who those individuals are until after the political candidate filing window opens on Nov. 9 and closes on Dec. 9.
