TAB to offer two newsroom workshops in 2014

As part of TAB’s commitment to ongoing training for station staff, TAB will provide two broadcast newsroom workshops in 2014.

TAB will present a regional Broadcast Newsroom Workshop on Saturday, March 8 in Lubbock on the Texas Tech campus.   The all-day workshop is co-sponsored by TAB and Texas Tech University, College of Media & Communication.

The event will feature several nationally-known newsroom trainers, Texas broadcast news professionals and three members of the college’s faculty.

Although the conference is geared to the working professional, there will be two sessions targeting university and college students pursuing a career in broadcast journalism.

Member station registration is just $55 per person which includes lunch.

Student registration is $25.

Boyd Huppert and Jonathan Malat of KARE-TV Minneapolis, will present several sessions on storytelling, writing and videography.

The award-winning duo has trained countless broadcast journalists across the country through workshops for NPPA, RTDNA and many state broadcast associations.

Les Rose of CBS News will present sessions on storytelling, as well as individual sessions on reporting and videography.

Rose, along with CBS’ Steve Hartman, has produced some of the network’s most memorable stories for the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, CBS Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood and The CBS Morning Show.

Brian Collister of KTRK-TV Houston will present three sessions on various aspects of investigative journalism, including using the Texas Public Information Act to turn stories.

Tom Williams of TAB Associate member law firm Haynes Boone LLP will update attendees in two sessions on the current state of Texas law as it applies to the newsgathering process.
