TAB Slates Webinar on Political File Rules

- More Revenue-Centric Training on Tap

The consent decrees recently struck by the FCC with six major Radio groups regarding incomplete political files have stations across the country concerned about their own compliance. TAB member stations have an opportunity next week to hear directly from the commission’s political chief and his top colleagues to ensure they’ve got this covered and, if not, what they could be facing down the road.

As TAB previously reported, with the FCC’s rules for political files now online, they can be inspected anytime by anyone with Internet access. Failure to comply can lead to costly fines, and the FCC is serious about enforcement.

The August 19 webinar with Bobby Baker, Gary Schonman and Sima Nilsson will address the steps needed to comply with the rules, the impact on a station’s license renewal and the FCC’s new consent decree process. The program includes a question and answer session for attendees and will be moderated by my counterpart in New York, David Donovan, and longtime communications counsel Jack Goodman, formerly with the NAB.

Political Resources Available Now
Member stations have no shortage of legal resources to ensure they’re in full compliance with FCC regulations on political broadcasting now.

TAB produced a webinar in January, still archived, covering all such rules which was presented by our FCC legal counsel, Scott Flick with the Pillsbury, Winthrop Shaw Pittman. The webinar supplemented TAB’s Guide to Political Broadcasting which covers the online Political File requirements in depth and is available for download in the Member Services section of www.tab.org.

The guide includes TAB’s Political Forms which help stations capture all the necessary FCC-required information for political advertising buys. These forms make the online posting of such that much easier and are identical in function as the NAB’s PB forms which are copyrighted.
