TAB Slates FCC Political Broadcast Rules Webinar for Jan. 12
posted on 12.14.2021Monday marked the filing deadline for state and federal political candidates in Texas to secure a place on the March 1 GOP and Democratic Party primary ballots.
Now that broadcasters have a better handle on who is actually running in the primaries, one thing is clear – Texas lawmakers’ efforts to redraw electoral district lines has seriously winnowed the number of competitive political races in the state this election year.
That said, the requirements and responsibilities of FCC licensees remains the same under the commission’s broadcast political regulations.
To help broadcasters understand their FCC obligations under these rules, TAB will present a free TAB member station webinar on Jan. 12, 2022, at 1 PM CT to review the FCC’s political broadcast regulations.
TAB’s FCC counsel, attorney Scott Flick of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, will discuss station obligations contained in the FCC’s political broadcast rules as well as in laws passed by Congress.
Topics include:
- Reasonable Access
- Equal Opportunities
- Lowest Unit Charge
- No Censorship
- Sponsorship Identification
Recordkeeping/Disclosure Regarding Political Advertisement Requests
The session will also cover the additional sponsorship identification requirement for political advertising contained in the Texas Election Code.
Take advantage of Texas broadcasters’ last chance to get a good understanding of the FCC’s political rules before the commission’s political window goes into effect on Jan. 15, 2022.
This online session will be recorded and available to members a few days after the webinar.
