TAB/SBE 2007: Annual Business Meeting

Elections to fill 12 seats on the TAB Board of Directors will be held at the Annual Business Meeting during the TAB Convention in Austin.

The Business Meeting is set for Thursday, Aug. 9 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Austin Hotel (Lobby Level, Ballroom B).

Watts photoMikal Watts will keynote the event. He is a South Texas attorney who is running for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. John Cornyn.

The open board seats include five radio seats, three television seats, two Associate seats and the one seat each for non-commercial and retired members.

Directors whose terms extend beyond 2007 and current officers are not eligible for nomination.

A preliminary ballot listing the top two nominees for each seat was mailed to members July 23.

Proposed Slate of Officers
The Nominating Committee met July 20 and unanimously approved the following slate of officers for consideration by the membership at the 2007 Annual Business Meeting.

Chairman: Jackie Rutledge, KTXS/KTXE/KTES Abilene
Vice Chairman: Jason Hightower, KMOO Mineola
Secretary: Danny Baker, KTBC-TV Austin
Treasurer: Matt Martin, KQXT/KAJA/KXXM/WOAI/KTKR/KRPT San Antonio
Past Chairman: Jerry Bobo, First Broadcasting in Dallas-Fort Worth

TAB Chairman Jerry Bobo chaired the Nominating Committee.

Committee members included: Patti C. Smith (TV Large Market), Ray Alexander (TV Other Market), Laura Morris (Radio Metro Market), Vesta Brandt (Radio Large Market), John Barger (Radio Medium Market) and Jerry Hanszen (Radio Other Market).

Members must attend the Annual Business Meeting in order to vote.

Q&A
Pursuant to a suggestion received last year, a Q&A session will be added to the meeting.

Please send questions to TAB Vice President Oscar Rodriguez or call (512) 322-9944 by noon on Friday, July 27 so TAB can be sure to address them at the meeting.

Some time also will be allotted for questions from the floor.
