TAB Posts 2026 Texas EAS Required Monthly Test Schedule

With this week’s Emergency Alert System (EAS) Required Monthly Test (RMT) on Tuesday, the 2025 schedule of EAS required monthly tests is complete. Looking ahead to next year, the Primary Entry Point (PEP) stations that originate the Texas EAS RMT have released the 2026 Texas RMT schedule. TAB posts this information on our website so stations will know in advance when the tests will take place.

Stations can review and download the 2026 EAS RMT schedule on the TAB website. 

PEP stations WBAP-AM Dallas-Fort Worth and KTRH-AM Houston set the schedule annually with input from the Texas State Networks (TSN). In accordance with the Texas State EAS Plan, the PEP stations initiate the RMT on the Tuesday of the first full week of each month (Texas State EAS Plan, page 20). If the RMT falls on a holiday, the RMT is scheduled for the next day per the Texas State EAS Plan. 

In accordance with 47 CFR 11.61, the FCC’s Tests of EAS Procedures regulations, states’ RMTs occur during the daytime or nighttime depending on whether it is an even or odd month.  The Texas RMT occurs during a two-hour window for each month as set forth in the schedule.

Apart from the Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston EAS regions, other Texas EAS regions receive the Texas RMT via either a daisy chain relay of broadcast stations or by the Texas State Networks’ satellite dissemination.

What to do If Your Station Does Not Receive an RMT

If a station does not receive an RMT, the FCC requires station staff to make “a good faith effort” to determine why it was not received. This is as simple as making an inquiry with either of the local primary stations for that EAS region and noting the inquiry details in the station’s EAS log.

The EAS RMTs are conducted by broadcasters, not TAB. If a station does not receive an RMT, it is best for station staff to contact the local primary stations directly to see whether the Texas RMT was received and forwarded to stations in a particular Texas EAS region. 

It is TAB’s practice to email all Texas station general managers when there is a Texas EAS RMT operational failure affecting multiple Texas EAS districts.
