TAB offers free Texas Public Information Act/Open Records webinar on Oct. 5

TAB has arranged a special Texas Public Information Act webinar for Thursday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m., to cover the current status of the state’s Open Records laws.

Attorney Laura Prather of TAB Associate Member law firm Haynes and Boone LLP will review what actions the 85th Texas Legislature took (and didn’t take) to revise the Texas Public Information Act as well as other state laws affecting newsgathering.

Prather is a longtime member of TAB’s Newsroom Legislative Committee and has been a key player in TAB’s successful efforts to pass the Free Flow of Information Act (reporter shield law), Citizen Participation Act (anti-SLAPP litigation law), and Defamation Mitigation Act (uniform retractions and corrections law).

This free webinar will cover:

  • recent court decisions TAB and other groups tried to address in the recent session and how they are affecting newsgathering in Texas
  • what changes the Legislature enacted that help newsrooms
  • what changes lawmakers didn’t pass that are hindering newsgathering
  • how newsrooms can help the cause of governmental transparency in the interim committee work leading up to the 2019 Texas Legislature

Register here for this hour-long TAB webinar

Newsrooms and station managers should take advantage of this great opportunity to get a concise snapshot of the current state of these important laws that impact newsgathering in Texas and protect against frivolous lawsuits.

This is a TAB members-only online service, arming you and your staff with the latest information right at your desktop.

There is no limit to the number of station staff who can sign up for this offering.
