TAB honors George Marti with namesake award

 - Bonner McLane Public Service Awards qualifications changed

TAB is soliciting nominations for its prestigious leadership awards, including a new one honoring broadcast pioneer George Marti.

The George Marti Award for Engineering Excellence will be awarded to an individual who has demonstrated excellence and innovation in broadcast engineering for a Texas radio or television station or in development of new technology, leadership in education and contributions to broadcast engineering technical standards.

“Broadcasting is a hotbed of technical innovation and requires cutting edge thinking and applications to ensure our continued vitality,” said TAB President Mike Lee of KXXV-TV Waco.

“No one in Texas is more revered for his lasting contributions to the industry’s technical capabilities than George Marti, and no one can match his commitment to extending educational opportunities or fostering excellence in our field.

“This award will extend his legacy and help foster future technology leaders for our industry.”

Also new on the TAB awards front this year is a revision of the Bonner McLane Public Service Awards program. Instead of having to recount an entire year of service to local communities, stations are asked to focus on their most exemplary or impactful project in the preceding year.

The prestigious awards will be presented during the 61st Annual Convention & Trade Show, Aug. 6-7 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel.

Nominations are now open in the individual leadership and public service categories. Submissions are due Friday, May 2, 2014.
