TAB delegation seeks Congressional support on key issues
posted on 2.24.2014Fourteen Texas broadcasters are visiting with Texas members of Congress this week urging them to ensure their local communities can continue to benefit from local Radio and Television stations’ programming, news, emergency warnings and recovery assistance.
Continuing efforts to impose a Performance Tax on radio stations and gut the TV retransmission consent process would imperil the industry’s vital role in serving and building local communities.
The meetings, held in conjunction with the NAB’s State Leadership Conference, cover nearly the entire state over a day and a half. Broadcasters from various size markets and operations are participating, with additional in-state meetings planned later this spring and summer.
Talking points and issue overviews prepared by the NAB are provided here.
“Despite this being an election year, there’s a lot of substantive policy work underway by staff and key members of Congress,” said TAB Legislative Policy Co-Chair John Kittleman of KRGV-TV in the Rio Grande Valley.
“It’s vitally important that we continuously update them on new developments and dispel the misinformation that our industry’s adversaries are spreading.”
TAB will update member station GMs in the coming weeks on where their lawmakers stand on the Performance Tax, retransmission consent and advertising tax policy.
