TAB Board Approves 2020 Budget

- New Sales, News Training on Tap for January

The TAB Board of Directors last week adopted a 2020 budget featuring an expansion of training programs for member stations.

The new offerings launch in January with separate programs focusing on political advertising, news reporting on the 2020 elections and “real world” digital and broadcast selling.

But the first major event in 2020 is the Jan. 10 deadline for stations to complete TAB’s annual Public Service research survey.

Public Service Ascertainment Survey – Due Jan. 10
This research project, begun in 1998, has documented nearly $6 billion in local broadcasters’ public service contributions to their communities.

It is a vital tool for TAB to help policymakers understand the unique role broadcasters play in the media marketplace.

On average, about 15 percent of stations participate in this survey. TAB does not extrapolate figures for non-responding stations, so the dollar value reported is far below the actual value of stations’ good works.

The Jan. 10 deadlines gives stations more time to complete the survey and coincides with the FCC’s quarterly issues and programs report deadline.
