Salem’s Michael Payne Joins TAB Board of Directors

Michael Payne, general manager of Salem Communications’ KSLR/KLUP/KRDY in San Antonio, has been selected to join the TAB Board of Directors representing Large Market Radio members. He was one of four broadcasters nominated by Large Market Radio members last fall and was selected by the Board to fill the vacancy resulting from Ben Reed’s retirement from Cox Media Group’s Alamo City operation.

Payne has been managing Radio stations for more than 20 years, moving to San Antonio in 2010 to manage Salem’s operations there.  He and his stations have been recognized multiple times for excellence in broadcasting and community service, including the NAB’s Crystal Award and TAB’s Bonner McLane Public Service Award.

Before joining Salem he served as a market manager and regional manager with station groups in Kansas City, Omaha and St. Louis.

TAB Board members are responsible for advising TAB staff on member services and legislative policy, providing fiduciary oversight for the organization and assisting with all major organizational efforts, including the PEP program, membership recruitment and the Annual Convention.

Payne’s term continues until August 2021 at which time he’ll be eligible to serve two additional three-year terms if elected as allowed under TAB’s bylaws.

TAB Board Election Season
Board elections occur annually with at least one seat in each TV and Radio market size category up for consideration. The process begins in early June and results will be announced at TAB’s Annual Convention and Trade Show Aug. 7-8 in Austin.

Broadcasters are encouraged to nominate themselves and campaign for support from their fellow market category members.
