Raycom Station Spreads Christmas Cheer to Those in Need

Raycom Media TV station KLTV, the ABC affiliate in Tyler-Longview led a community effort to help children, seniors and families during the holidays with gifts through the Salvation Army.

KLTV Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto transforms into "Santa Scirto" for the annual event.

He grows a beard and takes on the persona of Santa’s Chief Helper to highlight the local needs through the Salvation Army Angel Tree program.

He also uses his weather segment as a platform to inspire giving a gift through the Salvation Army.  The campaign begins immediately after Thanksgiving and lasts several weeks culminating with “Santa Scirto” arriving by helicopter to greet viewers at the "Annual Holiday In The Garden," where he is greeted by well-wishers and takes pictures with children and families.

This special event helps assist almost 4,000 East Texans including 2,500 children annually and has been a station commitment for more than 10 years.
