Broadcasters mourn passing of Barker
Edmund Asa “Eddie” Barker Jr. passed away July 23 in Dallas.
He began his broadcasting career at KMAC San Antonio, was a football announcer for the Humble Oil Southwest Conference broadcasts, and became news anchor at KRLD-TV Dallas-Fort Worth.
Barker was the first to report the death of President John F. Kennedy, making the announcement on a CBS feed from Dallas before the network reporters confirmed the news.
In 1972, he became vice president of VanCronkhite and Maloy Public Relations in Dallas.
In 1973, he bought the company, which became Eddie Barker Associates Inc.
In 1994, he began hosting a talk show at KPLT Paris and also worked for KRLD Dallas-Fort Worth. He retired from broadcasting in 2010.
Congratulations to TAB’s 2012 Pioneer of the Year William G. Moll
Join the Texas Association of Broadcasters in saluting Bill Moll with the association’s highest honor. The award honors Moll’s exemplary broadcast career as well as his commitment to localism and community service.
John Barger, former TAB Chairman and Texas Pioneer Broadcaster, will be named Broadcaster of the Year.
Dennis Harp, former associate dean of faculty, College of Mass Communications at Texas Tech University will also be honored as Educator of the Year.
The awards will be presented on Thursday, Aug. 9 as part of TAB's 59th Annual Convention & Trade Show.
Butler meets Hagman
John Butler, owner of Butler7media, recently met Larry Hagman from “Dallas” at a party in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Butler’s previous station affiliations include KWTX and KWTX-TV Waco, KRYS Corpus Christi, KLIF Dallas-Fort Worth and KVUE-TV Austin.
