Newsroom Workshop set for Oct. 16

Make plans to head to Austin for the Southwest Broadcast Newsroom Workshop.

TAB, the Radio Television Digital News Foundation and the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters will stage a day-long, multi-topic newsroom seminar on Oct. 16 in Austin.

The event features some of the nation?s best newsroom trainers with sessions for broadcast professionals in radio and TV newsrooms.

Al Tompkins, broadcast/online group leader for the Poynter Institute for Media Studies, will kick off the day with a session challenging journalists? critical thinking in order to enterprise more stories.

Other national presenters at the workshop include Deborah Potter, NewsLab; Tamara Keith, NPR (invited); Tracy Davidson, WCAU-TV (invited); and Chip Mahaney, Scripps Media, Inc.

A large contingent of the state?s best broadcast journalists also will present various sessions throughout the day:

Concurrent session topics will focus on writing, social media, ethics, videography, enterprise reporting, investigative reporting, legal issues in newsgathering and other topics.

The registration fee is $50/professional and $20/student.

The fee includes lunch and morning coffee and pastries.

The workshop will take place from 8:30 am ? 6 pm on the University of Texas campus.
