Music Modernization Act Signed into Law
posted on 10.15.2018The Orrin G. Hatch-Bob Goodlatte Music Modernization Act (MMA) is now law. President Donald Trump signed the measure last week after it was approved by Congress in September.
Long advocated by TAB, the National Association of Broadcasters, and other groups, the MMA is the first reform of music copyright law in several decades. One MMA provision formally establishes Congressional oversight as the Department of Justice reviews consent decrees with performing rights organizations such as ASCAP and BMI.
TAB and the NAB maintained a watchful eye on the legislation as it moved through both chambers, as any congressional reform of music copyright law has a potential impact on broadcasters.
