More Texas stations fined for “kid vid” violations

The FCC has fined three more Texas TV stations for violations of the children’s programming rules.

In two of the cases, the stations were fined for “apparently willfully and/or repeatedly violated the commission’s rules by: (1) failing to file timely with the commission the station’s Children’s Television Programming Reports, in violation of Section 73.3526(e)(11)(iii)” and “failing to report certain violations in the renewal application, in violation of Section 73.3514(a).”

In both of those cases, the licensee was late in filing the so-called “kid vid” reports in the station’s Public File and had not admitted the same in a specific question that is part of the FCC’s TV license renewal.

Entravision Holdings, LLC, licensee of Class A television station KCWT-CA, La Feria, was fined $12,000.

Dilip Viswanath, licensee of KLEG-CD Dallas, was fined $6,000.

In another case, the FCC fined Killeen Christian Broadcasting Corp., licensee of KPLE-CD, $3,000 for violating Section 73.3526(e)(11)(iii) of the FCC’s rules “by failing to file timely with the commission the station’s Children’s Television Programming Reports.”

The FCC’s forfeiture order did not elaborate on how the commission became aware of the violation.

In all three cases, the FCC said the licensee would not be held liable for the fine in the event that the Class A TV station was reverted to low power television status.
