KSHN Mourns Longtime Morning Show Host

Eric Latz, a longtime host and reporter for KSHN-FM Liberty, passed away after a brief illness May 14 at age 59.  A 24-year veteran of the station, he was well-known for helming “The Trading Post” morning program, his reporting on local concerns and announcing skills.

From a family of modest means, Latz’s route to Radio was somewhat circuitous but once he discovered the medium, he couldn’t give it up and his station colleagues evolved into his adoptive family. Over the years, he became an indispensable part of station owner Bill Buchanan’s team, working multiple assignments to fulfill the station’s mission to inform, entertain and protect the small community northeast of Houston.

“A good friend and advertiser asked us to give him an audition,” said Buchanan. “He promised we would never be sorry. We did and for 24 years we were never sorry!”

Latz is survived by his sister Johnni Fleming and her husband Richard, both of Moss Hill.
