KRIV and KRGV win Barbara Jordan Media Awards

The Governor’s Committee on People with Disabilities has announced the winners of the 30th Annual Barbara Jordan Media Awards for news stories produced in 2012.

Winners in each of the categories were chosen by a panel of judges, including journalists, professionals in the field of disabilities, and people with disabilities.

Broadcast award winners include staff from KRIV-TV Houston and KRGV-TV Weslaco.

KRIV’s Greg Groogan and Mark Muller won the TV feature category for their piece with I Will Run, the story of a wounded returning serviceman who runs with a unique prosthetic leg.

Mario Sandoval of the KRGV news staff won in the photography category for his videography in  A Will to Walk, a piece on a Rio Grande Valley teenager and his rehabilitation efforts.

The winners were honored at the Barbara Jordan Media Awards Ceremony dinner on April 13.
