KNDE-FM College Station shines with NAB Crystal Radio Award
posted on 4.26.2016Another banner year of commitment to community service nabbed KNDE-FM College Station a 2016 NAB Crystal Radio Award at the NAB Show in Las Vegas last week. It’s the second such honor for the station which first won in 2012, making KNDE the only station in Texas to win twice.
Among the station’s much-lauded good works was its mentoring partnership with Texas A&M University wherein the station donated 2,500 staff hours and its HD frequency, valued at $1.1 million, to form Fusion FM, providing students with meaningful broadcast experience on campus, the first of its kind.
With an “open-door policy” to any nonprofit organization, KNDE donated $134,932 in inventory and more than 9,000 minutes of interviews and free broadcasts to these groups. On top of that, the station hosted a two-day music festival that raised $140,000 for area charities and collected over $25,000 and more than 15,000 gifts of toys, clothes and bikes through its Christman Angles program.
Station owner Bill Hicks accepted the award on behalf of the station whose dedicated team of four personalities and news, sports, engineering sales and Street Team logged over 1,700 hours of community service.
The group is managed by TAB’s 2010 Broadcaster of the Year Ben Downs.
