JW’s Latham has sports book hitting store shelves this week

Latham calls it a collection of “rants, riffs and reflections on the world of sports,” culled from his moonlighting as a columnist for Sports Travel magazine.

He’s not just an avid observer of sports and walking encyclopedia on them.

Latham has held many positions in the world of sports, including chairman of USA Rugby, member of the board of directors of the United States Olympic Committee, and member of the International Rugby Board’s executive council.

Latham has traveled the world over to play in organized sports such as rugby and as a fan appreciating athletic competition.

His columns, collected in this book for the first time, as known for their funny, original and sometimes poignant perspective.

The book offers valuable tips on how to be a sports tourist or become a professional sports team’s number one fan.

Latham chronicles his pilgrimages to sports meccas and legendary sporting events, from Wimbledon to Wrigley Field.

Along the way there are some offbeat observations such as a curious decision by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, visiting baseball great Ted Williams’ cryogenic resting place, and working Happy Days’ Fonzie and Nelson Mandela into the same column.

In his day job, he is one of Jackson Walker LLP’s top commercial litigation attorneys and also specializes in media law.

If you have ever called the TAB Legal Hotline with a question involving state law, there’s a chance you have talked to Latham.

He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America in multiple disciplines and is a graduate of Stanford and the University of Virginia law school.

Winners & Losers (Greenleaf Book Group Press, $24.95) is available in stores and from major online book sites such as Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
