National EAS Test Reporting, FCC Compliance
With the next national EAS test slated for 2:20 (Eastern) on Aug. 7, TAB has scheduled a three-hour filing “party” that afternoon to ensure everyone has ample opportunity to file their day-of test reports before midnight. Attorney Jessica Nyman with TAB’s FCC legal counsel Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman will be on hand to help troubleshoot.
Inspectors for TAB’s Alternative Broadcast Inspection Program and Nyman’s law partner Scott Flick walk through common compliance failures at Texas stations and how the online public file is being viewed by the FCC’s enforcement division.
ATSC 3.0 & Spectrum Repack
Multiple programs are slated that approach these topics from different angles, including:
- A high-level presentation on Next-Gen TV Market Plans featuring Sasha Javid of The Spectrum Consortium and other key industry players
- Another focusing on Managing ATSC 3.0 and 1.0 Simulcast
- A deep dive into the design and marketing of the new TV standard by Fred Baumgartner, plus
- Tech tales from the trenches highlighting some of the unique challenges engineers have encountered in the Spectrum Repack
Solid State: A Tale of Two Media
Solid state transmitters and their promise of cost savings and operating efficiency get a hard look as engineers see clear benefits for TV, but a cloudier future for Radio.
Smarter Tech & the Bottom Line
Multiple experts explore how technology investments and new operating strategies can boost a station’s bottom line, covering topics such as:
- A new approach to grounding technology and best practices
- Plan and design considerations for an IP-centric environment for TV stations
- Doug Ferber with DEFcom Advisors shares his insights into 10 opportunities to improve operations and revenue and leads a panel discussion of how best to manage a station’s vertical real estate in The Looming Tower: To Sell or Not to Sell
- How your backup power system investment can be monetized to provide services beyond blackout protection
Capping It Off
Rounding out the program are presentations on how All-Digital AM could be the ultimate solution to vexing interference problems and how Radio and TV stations alike should be protecting their C-Band positions.
