Headliners Foundation Opens Call for Showcase Award Entries

The Headliners Foundation of Texas is issuing a call for entries for its annual Showcase Awards for Enterprise and Innovation in Journalism, the only cross-media competition to honor exceptional work by Texas-based journalists.

The current contest period is for journalism produced from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2022. The deadline for entries is Monday, February 13, 2023.

The Showcase Awards, first introduced by the Foundation in 2013, recognize outstanding investigative journalism that has made a significant impact on Texas government, public policy, culture, or the conduct of a business, non-profit or other organization.

In 2021, the introduction of a Storytelling category expanded the contest to include outstanding journalism whose content uses compelling storytelling to shed new light on an aspect of Texas and Texans, including their evolving culture and history.

“The addition of the Storytelling category has opened the contest to journalism that has a different kind of impact,” said Fred Zipp, chair of the Foundation's Professional Excellence Committee, which coordinates the Showcase Award program.

“We are pleased to be able to recognize powerful, human stories that provide real insight into the lives of everyday Texans,” Zipp said.

Eligible news media outlets and journalists may submit up to three entries per category (Investigative and Storytelling) from work produced in 2022. Each entry can contain up to 10 separate elements.

There is no cost to enter the Showcase competition, which provides cash awards directly to individual journalists. The top Showcase Award in each category pays $2,000, part of more than $30,000 in annual award prizes.
