Formby celebrates milestone
posted on 1.27.2010Former TAB Chairman Clint Formby reached another milestone in his broadcast career with 17,002 consecutive programs of the "Day-By-Day Philosopher."
The daily commentary, airing six days a week at 7:45 am, was first broadcast on KPAN-AM Hereford on October 10, 1955.
The five minute program is the longest-running daily radio broadcast by an individual in America.
Formby, aka "The Old Philosopher" was recently featured on "Texas Country Reporter."
In 2007, NBC's TODAY show devoted a segment to his storied career.
Longtime president of KPAN, Formby is the only Texas broadcaster to be named Chairman of TAB and awarded TAB's Broadcaster and Pioneer of the Year awards, as well as receive TABE's and TBEF's awards for support of education.
He also has served as Chairman of the Radio Board for the National Association of Broadcasters, Past President of the Associated Press Broadcasters, member of the corporate board of the Associated Press and a member of the board of Broadcast Music, Inc.
His son, Chip, currently serves on the TAB Board of Directors.
