FOIFT sets June 9 RGV Open Government Seminar

Broadcasters in the Rio Grande Valley area have a seminar on the Texas Public Information Act and Texas Open Meetings Act coming your way.

The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas and the Office of the Texas Attorney General have scheduled June 9 seminar to enhance the public’s understanding of the changing landscape of open government.

Sessions address the Texas Public Information Act and Texas Open Meetings Act and include a legislative update on recent changes to the laws.

While the program is directed toward government employees, journalists and anyone wanting to learn more about open government laws is encouraged to attend.

Seminars feature experienced attorneys and others knowledgeable in this area of law.

The June RGV session will run from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, 1200 Ash Ave.

The Attorney General’s Office will present training on the Texas Public Information Act and TPIA cost rules.

Those sessions are free.

The FOI Foundation will present training on the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Admission to that session is $50.

Participants may register for either or both sessions.
