FOIFT presents May Open Government law seminars

The Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas will stage two Open Government seminars in May to foster understanding of Texas’ public information and public meetings laws.

The one-day seminars are offered in cooperation with the Office of the Texas Attorney General.

The workshops are designed for journalists, government employees, attorneys and members of the general public who want to learn more about the Texas Public Information Act and Texas Open Meetings Act.

The seminars feature experienced attorneys and others knowledgeable in this important area of law.

The first workshop takes place May 3rd in Conroe at Lone Star College-Montgomery, 3200 College Park Drive, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Attorney General’s Office will begin the day with training on the Texas Public Information Act at 9 a.m. followed by training on TPIA cost rules.

Those sessions are free and conclude at 11:30 a.m.

The FOI Foundation will present a session on the Texas Open Meetings Act by attorney Joe Larsen, of TAB Associate member law firm Sedgwick LLP, starting at 1 p.m.

Admission for this session is $50.

Participants may attend either or both sessions.

A second workshop in El Paso takes place on May 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the El Paso Independent School District’s Professional Development Center, 6500-K Boeing Drive.

Like the earlier workshop, the Attorney General’s Office will present training on the Texas Public Information Act and TPIA cost rules in the morning while an FOIFT-affiliated attorney will present afternoon training on the Texas Open Meetings Act.
