FOIFT First Amendment Institute set for Aug. 27-31 in Corpus

Interested becoming one of a select group of individuals involved a serious study of the importance and application of our First Amendment?

If so, you should take advantage of the Freedom of Information Foundation of Texas' First Amendment Institute.

The Institute provides a unique opportunity for individuals to gain a deeper understanding of the First Amendment through a concentrated study with a nationally recognized faculty.

The five day seminar will be held this year on Aug. 27-31 in Corpus Christi.

The First Amendment to the United States Constitution embodies some of our most cherished ideas about the meaning of liberty. After a week of in-depth study, participants will graduate with a greater appreciation of their rights and why it is so vital to protect those rights. It is the hope of the FOIFT that after such an immersion into First Amendment thought, participants will take the lead in protecting First Amendment freedoms for future generations.

The First Amendment Institute is open to all who apply; however, the class size each year is limited. Participants have included citizens from a broad spectrum of interests including legal, media, public relations, academia, government, business and concerned citizens. Applications must be submitted by individuals or, if applicable, sponsoring organizations.

Tuition is $1,500 per person, which covers course materials, special events and some meals. The participant or sponsor is responsible for travel and lodging expenses.

Thanks to a donation from the Stanley Marcus Scholarship Fund, there are limited scholarship funds available to cover tuition for media participants.

Download application form. (Due Monday, July 16)
