FCC makes sales push on spectrum auction

With little notice, the FCC has announced a series of webinars starting today targeting television broadcasters who may be on the fence about whether to participate in the “no risk, high reward” voluntary incentive spectrum auction.
The hour-long sessions will be presented twice daily through the end of this week. They will be presented by one of three FCC staffers:
- Gary Epstein, Chair of the Incentive Auction Task Force
- Bill Lake, Mass Media Bureau Chief
- Howard Symons, Vice Chair of the Incentive Auction Task Force

On June 2, the FCC released its Report and Order to implement the Broadcast Television Incentive Auction. The FCC staff invites broadcasters to participate in a webinar during which staff will explain and answer questions about the Report and Order. This webinar will cover three main aspects of the Report and Order. First, it will describe the no risk, high reward opportunity for broadcasters to voluntarily participate in this incentive auction. Second, it will break down the details on how the auction works. Third, and finally, it will explain the repacking process and what happens after the auction for stations whose channels are changed as a result of the incentive auction or the repacking process.
