FCC Issues Texas TV Station $369,000 NAL, Cancels Another Station’s Fine, and Seeks to Revoke a Station’s License

The FCC has issued a $369,190 Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture against Corridor Television, LLP, licensee of KCWX-TV Fredericksburg, “for apparently willfully and repeatedly violating our Emergency Alert System rules by failing to participate in three Nationwide Tests and failing to file or filing false information related to the same.”

The order said Corridor has 30 calendar days from the NAL release date to pay the full amount of the proposed forfeiture or file a written statement seeking reduction or cancellation of the proposed forfeiture.

In another case, the FCC has cancelled its $3,000 Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture issued to Jackson, MS based Cobra Broadcasting LLC, licensee of KBRA-FM Freer.

KBRA was initially issued an NAL for “apparently willfully violating section 73.3539 of the Commission’s rules by failing to timely file a license renewal application for the station.”

Cobra Broadcasting said there were mitigating circumstances which prevented it from timely filing the renewal.

It attempted to file KBRA’s license renewal in March of 2021, but “FCC Support Services could not get passwords reset after several attempts over many days.”

The FCC said Media Bureau staff “independently confirmed that Licensee was unable to access the LMS filing system until after the April 1, 2021, deadline had passed and was therefore unable to file its license renewal application.”

The commission also has initiated proceedings to revoke the license of KIJN-AM Farwell for failure to pay delinquent annual regulatory fees.

It has ordered Unidos Para Cristo, Inc., licensee of KIJN to pay the delinquent regulatory fees or show cause why payment should be waived or deferred.

The commission’s records show that KIJN has “outstanding regulatory fees for FYs 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 2023, and 2024,” totaling $27,492.48.

Unidos Para Cristo, Inc., has been given 60 days to pay the outstanding fees and interest or show cause
“why these regulatory fees are inapplicable to Licensee or should otherwise be waived or deferred.”

The FCC said Unidos Para Cristo’s “failure to provide such evidence of payment or to show cause within the time specified may result in revocation of licensee’s license for the station.”
