FCC issues important DTV notice

The FCC's recent public notice could affect stations' DTV operations, either current or proposed.

Effective immediately, television stations may file petitions for DTV channel substitutions (but not for new stations or changes in community of license), as well as applications to maximize their DTV facilities.

Even if a station filed for further reconsideration of the DTV Table of Assignments in order to preserve their ability to maximize the facilities in the future, they should still file a maximization application now.

Stations wishing to take advantage of this opportunity should file their applications as promptly as possible and no later than June 20, 2008 in order to protect themselves for cutoff purposes.
