KCBD-TV, KXXV-TV help “Dance Away Diabetes”

If you haven't yet seen the video movement to #DanceAwayDiabetes, it's sure to pop up on your Facebook feed soon.

With over 650,000 views in just 2 weeks, the fight against diabetes has never been more viral--or more fun.Dan Jackson

This dance challenge was invented by Lauren Jackson, wife of KCBD NewsChannel 11's Vice President and General Manager Dan Jackson.

Dan's youngest son, Pierce, was diagnosed with the illness at age 10 and is this year’s Youth Ambassador for the Diabetes Walk.

Lauren wanted to find a way to raise awareness of the illness, while also encouraging people to donate to the American Diabetes Association.

Dan posted a disco dance on KCBD's Facebook page, dedicated it to PierKXXV Dances Away Diabetesce, urged people to make a donation, and challenged many others to dance.

The video gained momentum thanks to broadcast and community leaders, like KXXV-TV GM Eric Duncan, who accepted the challenge.

Now, the #DanceAwayDiabetes hashtag count continues to rise as the movement spreads across the state of Texas, and the nation.
